I’m a little late posting this week.  It’s been a busy few days, but that’s a story for another time.  Here’s the one for today:

Frank crawled out of bed and stared at the stale pizza and empty wine bottle on the dresser.  He jerked around at a sound behind him.   A tousled head of black curls poked out from under the covers.

“Daddy?”

Frank shivered.  He never thought he’d hear that word applied to him. 

“What, boy?”

“Promise I’ll never have to go back to that place again?”

The man shook his head.  Marietta had lied to him about the kid.  Then she just left his son with her parents, knowing what a hellhole it was.  

“Don’t worry, you’re safe.  I’ve got you now.
