There are two sites with weekly photo prompts for writing Flash Fiction that I check occasionally. Neither of them has inspired me for months. I think I need to go back to my WIP and try to put something together there. I actually had two of those as well. Maybe I can find inspiration in one of them.
The first one was started while I was in college. Not as long ago as you might imagine, around 2008 or so. It is set in the 196os about a young girl who is forced into a “marriage of convenience” by her too strict mother and winds up a widow with a young child as a result. The twenty-somethings in my class didn’t think the scenario was realistic. I’m thinking it could have been. I’ve read of such occurrences actually happening since then. I think I may be able to work it up.
The second actually started as a scenario for one of the Flash Fiction sites, Friday Friday Fictioneers. It was a science fiction piece. I played with several scenes that were loosely connected for a few weeks. It piqued my interest and I began to work on it as a book idea. It had a young girl who belonged to an other world clan that connected mentally with animals and sometimes, accidentally, became shape shifters. I still like that idea too.
Maybe it’s time I tried going back to my own interests instead of trying to gain inspiration from other people’s ideas. If I can get back into either of them, I’ll post excerpts here occasionally.
