In the process of planning one of my WIP, I developed a backstory about a family involved in coal mining during the 1930s or 40s. This past weekend, I did a little research along those lines. We went to Harlan County in Eastern Kentucky and toured an old coal mine. The tour guide was informative. I think I’ll work that premis up into a Flash Fiction story.
I need to do more research though. I own the Foxfire books which may be helpful. I also have a book I bought some time ago called Historic Coal Towns of the Big Sandy River Valley that should prove helpful. I also plan to visit our local library. I’m sure they’ll have informative articles.
